Kevin Gilbert

 “Baseball is my life; there is nothing more I enjoy than stepping out onto the field in between those chalky foul lines.”                                                                                                                                 -Kevin Gilbert-

 Kevin Gilbert was an outstanding baseball player at Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ.  As a high school sophomore, Kevin began his career as the starting varsity center fielder.  He helped his team win a NJSIAA Group IV State Championship.   Kevin excelled on and off the field by earning athletic and academic scholarships and in his senior year of high school, Kevin signed a letter of intent to play Division I Baseball for Temple University. 

On March 12, 2011, Kevin woke before the sun as he often did and left his home in Whitehouse Station for team practice.  Unfortunately, Kevin was in a horrific car accident on his way to the high school field and suffered a severe brain trauma.  Kevin passed away as a result of his injuries.  I lost a dear friend that day; we all lost a friend that day, a son, a brother, a grandson and so much more.  We lost a hero.  In the words of Kevin himself, “Let me tell you from experience, it is not easy to be the hero as the professional baseball players make it look.”  Kevin became a hero and an inspiration to more than just his close knit family and friends.  Through the New Jersey sharing Network, Kevin was able to save so many lives by donating his organs.                 

The Fonseca Pro Series is keeping Kevin’s memory alive by adding the Kevin Gilbert label to our bat series.  When you order your training bat please ask for the Kevin Gilbert label to be placed on your bat and a portion of the sale will be donated to the Kevin Gilbert Scholarship Fund.  It was an honor to not only have trained Kevin, but to watch him play baseball was spectacular.  His love of the game was so evident every time he walked out on that field.  His energy was contagious.  Kevin and I had a motto, “don’t make excuses make adjustments”.  As Kevin did every day, train harder, train game ready, and get inspired.  Please help us keep Kevin’s memory alive and get your Fonseca Pro Series training bat and request the Kevin Gilbert logo.
